Simple but well-executed, Kriegzittern and Minenfeld take the basic death metal template well-known to fans of Hail of Bullets and make it their own. In fact, it would be presumptuous to assume that either band was inspired by Hail of Bullets. They are inspired by war themes, but they both sound more raw and underground than Hail of Bullets’ more refined, polished style.
Both bands hail from Germany but gladly skip the Nazi war themes on their split cassette released by Caligari Records. Basic death metal? How about good back to the basic death metal? This is certainly heavy, raw as hell, and great to play loud. Love the Hail of Bullets style but prefer something suitably underground, with more blast sections and grittier guitar effects? Choose Kriegzittern and Minenfeld.
Not to be confused with war metal the likes Blasphemy has made famous, but not so far down the river with death metal the Swedeath way, or the polished major label way, these two bands bring music destined to be a great listen for years to come, all on cassette tape.
Label: Caligari Records
The drums are delightfully audible, without suffering from major label over-refinement. The riffs are occasionally inspiring, mostly on the rhythm sections, and as mentioned the gritty guitar sound and the ultra-guttural vocals make this a steal for two bands you’re friends haven’t heard of yet.
For underground death metal the trve and brutal way, a start of a collection, or a worthy addition to a fan’s existing cassette collection, check out Kriegzittern and Minenfeld’s split tape by Caligari Records. Both bands feature plenty of blast and stop, slowing down to downpick until the walls come crumbling down, or speeding up on the blast sections to level a small town, death metal like this is anti-technical, anything but modern and lame-stream, and is priced for zealots to afford, so there are really no excuses for you to skip out on a great cassette release. You’re likely to find it online than at a store, so stream this f*cker now and get the hint you’ve been waiting for. For the underground, by the underground. Always trve! I know you.
