David Scott was the person from the 1970’s/80’s community at Venice Beach, California that captured our young lives on film. He would walk that boardwalk with his beagle dog and take photos of all of us just being ourselves. His photos are snapshot of an era that can never be lived again. No one in these photos knew it at the time, but what we were doing would change the world and pop culture. When I look at David’s flicks, my mind instantly travels back in time because I see so many familiar faces. Our lives were not perfect, but we all loved each other and we had each other’s backs. Venice had not been touched by corporate greed yet, the boardwalk was lined with apartments, not cheesy souvenir stands. The beach was our playground, and in a weird way, it raised us. You can see our transition from the long-haired children of the 70’s to the skate rat punks of the 80’s.
