Cave State Review-Footage-Stream

The shape of power violence has changed drastically since its earliest incarnations; however, some things still remain the same. For example: short songs, shows in small venues, distorted bass tones, the drummer being the best member of the band, and of course, blast beats and heavy breakdowns.

The shape of power violence has changed drastically since its earliest incarnations; however, some things still remain the same.  For example: short songs, shows in small venues, distorted bass tones, the drummer being the best member of the band, and of course, blast beats and heavy breakdowns are all still a large part of being in a PV band and going to PV shows. California’s Cave State combines all the necessary elements for a good PV band and provides a solid listen for anyone who is a fan of bands like Crossed Out, Scapegoat, Mind Eraser, Sex Prisoner and even old Hatred Surge.

The band’s self titled EP is available though To Live a Lie Records and delivers a punishing eleven tracks that are likely to cause severe damage to whatever may be near you. Cave State takes a primitive approach to power violence, and unlike some of their contemporaries, they have managed to make simple music incredibly energetic and intense. With a genre like power violence, it can be easy to trail off and try to do too much in one 30 to 40 second song.  Cave State makes excellent use of time in their music, and the band incorporates just enough material in every song to keep listeners interested and wanting more.

Short, loud, fast and to the point is the essence of power violence, and Cave State captures it perfectly. If you live anywhere in Southern California and enjoy power violence, then you will be doing yourself a huge favor by taking the time to go see Cave State.  If you need proof, lurk the tunes and live video below.
