CVLT Nation 3rd Anniversary
Mixtape By Usnea

The CVLT Nation 3rd Anniversary Showcase is at the Black Lodge in Seattle on Saturday, April 19th, 2014…more info HERE!

One of our favorite young doom bands, USNEA, has put together a mixtape for our 3rd Anniversary showcase this Saturday! If you haven’t seen these dudes live, we highly recommend making it out to this show – they will turn your bones to dust with their heavier than heavy basslines!

Zeke felt confident with leaving this mix to the three of us, what a mistake. Thank you for listening, and thanks above all to Cvlt Nation for all that they do and for having us. Cheers!

Part I: Johnny’s Mix.

1. “Death Walks Behind You” by Atomic Rooster

This here song represents a symbol of my individuality, and my belief in personal freedom.

2. “Monkey Junction” by Weedeater

This here song represents a symbol of my individuality, and my belief in personal freedom.

3. “Creepy Smell” by The Melvins

This here song represents a symbol of my individuality, and my belief in personal freedom.

4. “Hangover Flood” by Mozergush

This here song represents a symbol of my individuality, and my belief in personal freedom.

5. “Nobody One Knows” by Norska

This here song represents a symbol of my individuality, and my belief in personal freedom.

6. “At Giza” by Om

This here song represents a symbol of my individuality, and my belief in personal freedom.

Part II: Justin’s Mix.

7. “Capitel II : Soelen Gaaer Bag Aase Need” by Ulver

Introspective folklore-driven black metal from Norway, all of the melody you’d ever need to get lost in the mountains entranced by a hungry troll.

8. “Smoke Pigs” by Thou

The song that first got me into Thou. Hateful swamp sludge about smashing the police state and it’s attendant complacency. As beautiful as a rock in a cop’s face. Brilliant.

9. “Cop” by Swans

Swans are pretty much the harshest, most depressive and most brutal band of all time.

10. “3 AM” in Agony by Vastum

Old school death metal is having a renaissance, but no band in the genre past or present inflicts such devastating psychological horror and sexual tension quite like Vastum.

11. “Stress Test” by Iron Lung

Underneath the insane drum storm and blistering guitar, and beyond the hilarity of their live show banter; this band are bleeding an artistic message satirizing this whole stupid world… and they are my all-time favorite power-violence band, even beating out Man is the Bastard.

12. “We Have Failed” by Stoneburner

Stoneburner are friends of ours. Even if they weren’t, they would still be massively inspiring with their scorched-Earth-rattling riffs and raw misandry and I would probably never guess how nice they all are from the mood their music produces.

13. “Blasphemy Squad” by Rudimentary Peni

The best punk band ever, period.

14. “Serenity” by Ceremonium

Perfect death-doom. Crawl into your coffin and let the worms begin.

15. “Omega” by Laudanum

Laudanum forged an inimitable blend of death doom and industrial noise and drone so sinister and claustrophobic that it will set them apart forever.

Part III: Joel’s Mix.

16. “MSQ No-Extra” by Black Marble

This Brooklyn band makes some of the most perfect pop songs out of a strange mix of electronic music and coldwave. Lo-fi, infectious, dark, and reverby.

17. “Paper Hats” by This Heat

This album came out in 1981 and it totally sounds completely out of time. Its like space aliens (who spoke English) made this record and sent it to us to document what their civilization was like. They’re starting to get a little recognition now, but they went under appreciated for years. Maybe not as genius or early as Captain Beefheart, but certainly far less appreciated.

18. “The Fashion Party” by The Neon Judgement

This Belgian band basically pre-dated/invented EBM and this track is totally awesome. Don’t be a drag.

19. “The Porter” by Dream Affair

Another new coldwave band that totally rules. I love the ominous synths and the switching off male/female vocals.

20. “A Version” by Void Vision

This track is on a split with one of my favorite Portland bands, Vice Device (unfortunately I only have them on vinyl right now and I’m too lazy to digitize it). This track is always on my goth vinyl DJ list. Its dark as fuck.

21. “Blank-Eyed, Nose Bleed” by ADULT.

Everyone tends to either hate or love this band, no inbetweens. I fucking love them.

22. “Heart of Dust” by Light Asylum

Another New York band that makes 80s inspired darkwave. Totally awesome live.

23. “Your Fork Moves” by Lebanon Hanover

A German coldwave married duo that totally blew me away the first time I heard them. I read an interview with them saying that they only listened to Malaria! and German new wave and you can totally tell.

24. “An Ending (Ascent)” by Brian Eno

I want this song to be played while my naked body is dumped unceremoniously in the forest after I die. This song makes me feel like I’ve taken a massive overdose of opiates.
