I feel like someone just cracked my head like an egg and what landed in the frying pan was this video for “Amite River” from SPLLIT. Now my brain is bubbling away and getting crispy on the edges and the soundtrack is strange and urgent and disruptive. I love experimental music like this because it’s free of the pretense of order and civilization that our systems cling to. It’s a sonic representation of a world where air conditioners cause heatwaves and billionaires are launched into space. It’s sound that sprays LSD chemtrails over a symphony orchestra and watches as they descend into a string-plucking, tooting, delightful mess. It shows us that the harder we pretend for the world the harder it will be to live in our own skin. And the people who want us to pretend are just the most terrified that we’ll find out who they really are. Today I’m stoked to share both the video for “Amite River” and a full stream of their new LP Spllit Sides that’s out on July 30th via Feel it Records — pre-order it here.
