You know that scene in The Goonies where the Fratellis are putting Chunk’s hand in the blender? Well, I was a small child when I watched that (at my best friend’s Dad’s house of course – Dads never gave a shit about what you were watching…) and I never fully recovered from my fear of flesh mangled by kitchen appliances. To this day I think about it when I’m making smoothies. So Marc Clancy‘s SFX hand makeup is like one of my worst childhood nightmares come true (besides eyeballs, but that’s another story…please don’t do eyeballs Marc!!!). The graphic designer from Melbourne taught himself SFX makeup and specializes in hand trauma, which he is sickeningly good at. I mean, I enjoy gore as much as the next CVLT Nation reader, but scrolling through his instagram actually churns my stomach. Hands that have had the skin peeled away to reveal the bloody muscle underneath or fingers and thumbs that have been all but severed, bones protruding and fluids glistening. I have so much admiration for people who are self-taught, because it takes so much time, tenacity and discipline to learn on your own. Clancy is seriously talented, and his SFX makeup is unique and disgusting – in the best way possible!
