Video Premiere: The Soundbyte “Descending”

While followers of experimental metal band The 3rd and The Mortal may have shed a tear or two at the band’s decision to take their leave in 2005, a committed legion sought solace and have no doubt found it ever since in The Soundbyte. Three albums deep with a fourth on the horizon, fronted by Trondheim-based/former The 3rd and The Mortal guitarist Trond Engum and drummer Rune Hoemsnes, the band is for all intents and purposes a tank-shaped vehicle for Engum’s dark and atmospheric guitar and electronic sound. “Descending” is the first video taken from their new album, and while it’s a trip that eases you curiously in, when it inevitably knocks you over the head with a bloodied riff, as that doomscape takes hold there’s little chance of escape. Recorded by Engum himself, co-mixed with Michael Tibes (Helloween, Kamelot) and mastered by Neil Pickles (Piano Interrupted, Fernandez 4), Solitary IV by The Soundbyte is released on 30th June via ToT Records and can be preordered here.
