What do you listen to when your soul feels numb from pain and you need something to shock your system like a deathly dip in the icy Arctic Ocean? I listen to the Swedish black metal mystery Vakaren, who have a new EP called Rädslorna out on August 21st – pre-order it here. Meaning “The Horrors” in Swedish, Rädslorna is a journey through the horror of human existence, and the desire to shine a light on our disease rather than hide it. It’s atmospheric at times, and lo-fi audio destruction at others. With vocals that sound like they’re coming from a mauled and decaying throat, riffs that ring across each song like the buzzing of locusts, and drums that carry us through the chaos, Vakaren have created an EP for everyone who needs their thick skin shredded by 1,000 paper cuts. Today we’re pleased to be sharing the EP in full with you here, and stay tuned for their full-length album in the works, Ethereal, due out in 2021.
