The Divinization of Matter and Man…
Alchemical Illustrations

Alchemy was not just a scientific practice – one of weighing, measuring, combining, testing and creating – it was also a spiritual practice, and the practitioners aimed to bring their all too human bodies closer to God through the study of Earth’s elements and the planets. The strange universe of alchemy is far to deep and mysterious to describe without committing to thousands of pages, but the diagrams and illustrations from alchemical texts to a good job of opening the portal into the weird and wacky world of this ancestor of modern science. Battling beasts, third eyes and elemental symbols form complex images to describe the beliefs and practices of alchemists and their path to immortality. Check out some alchemical inspiration below…

Meghan MacRae grew up in Vancouver, Canada, but spent many years living in the remote woods. Living in the shadow of grizzly bears, cougars and the other predators of the wilderness taught her about the dark side of nature, and taught her to accept her place in nature's order as their prey. She is co-founder of CVLT Nation.
