Can’t see a future
Educated men on the balcony
Can’t see the shooter
Bankrupted education system can’t find the looter
I blame the house
Soulless body of representatives
Can’t feel the flames
Can’t feel ghouls and demons
Licking at they flesh, they brainsSo we don’t rest

SUMAC & MOOR MOTHER is a collaboration that was destined to happen. When I saw them on tour together, the gravity of their art was such a perfect complement. SUMAC’s devastating, downtuned, abyssal compositions and Moor Mother’s poignant, pointed, percussive poetry. So they made a record together, and it’s exactly what I would have expected from two greats. It’s unbelievably heavy, sonics that drag my soul through time and space and lyrics that shake me and wake me up from the reality I perceive so that stop and look both ways so I don’t get hit and run’d back into a survival dream. It’s not a record I could throw on the turntable for some ambiance. This is a record that commands my attention. Live, I feel like this music would be transformational.
SUMAC & MOOR MOTHER’s new record The Film came out April 25th via Thrill Jockey โ they’ve got a handful of yellow vinyl left that you can pick up here. They did a collab set at this year’s Roadburn that you can watch below, and Moor Mother has a handful of EU tour dates remaining this week.
America piss and shit itself no diaper
Obituaries of death don’t need no writer
They drop an atomic bomb on our memories
We don’t remember what it means to ever be free
Whip and nae-nae ourselves away from our dreams
Away from our dreams, away from our dreams
The internet cloned home, algorithm bloodstream
We all had dreams, we all had dreams to get to the cream
Paycheck to paycheck
We all had schemes
