MEATWOUND recently performed a live set on Tampa community radio station WMNF and we’re stoked to be able to premiere it today! They released their sophomore album Largo via Magic Bullet Records in May of this year, and you can listen to it and pick it up below. Check out what their vocalist Daniel Shook had to say about playing on WMNF’s show The Event Horizon, and watch it right here and now!

So, WMNF is the community radio station in Tampa and they have been around forever. Ira, one of their DJs, approached us after a show we played and asked us about coming into the studio. He does a show on Monday nights from midnight to 4am and plays a staggering assortment of sounds every week. That dude is like a living music history google search, he has been working radio for decades and still gets excited about finding new music. He actually saw us the first time when we were the only “band” playing a noise show at our guitarist’s house. Ira is a pure music fan and his enthusiasm is refreshing. We hammered out a date to record some live tracks in the studio and a later date to go on the air for his show, appropriately titled The Event Horizon. The problem arose when we only had one night to practice for the live set after our drummer got back from a five week tour with his other band. They said they wanted 25-30 minutes of music so we practiced a set and put the three songs we were most confident in at the front and had our guy Christian come in and film it. He does a lot of video work for the Fest in Gainesville every year and he knows his shit.A couple weeks later, we went in at midnight on the Monday of the record release week and played the whole live set, did a bit of interview, and Ira let us play whatever we wanted which resulted in such radio gold as the Goblin song Witch cross fading into Debbie Deb’s Lookout Weekend. Ari tried to expose our secret recipe by playing all of the bands that we steal from, Leo mainly wanted to play jazz and Fucked Up records, and Mariano dug out some Drive Like Jehu from the station’s library. This is the story of the radio video.
