Self-inquiry is probably a human being’s greatest strength. As much as many of us avoid and neglect our ability to introspect and examine our experiences, reactions, and motivesโresulting in lives led over and over in ignorance and cruelty, intentional or notโmany of us are able to see ourselves and our impact on those around us, and lead a life of kindness and strength even in the worst circumstances. I think our culture has had its concepts of strength and leadership completely twisted for centuries. We’ve been led to believe that self-improvement is climbing a hierarchy instead of what it really is: creating balance in the collective experience of humanity.
POLLDARIER is exploring the inward journey to this balance on his new record Bode. The single we’re premiering the visual for today, “AM I,” to me, speaks to the real strength that is required to reach an understanding of who we are and what we bring to each other. It’s a heavy confrontation of thudding beats and itching static that makes my skin crawl with discomfort, but an eerie, almost uplifting melody is woven throughout, reminding me that the only way out of life’s struggles is through.
The weakest thing a human can do is tell themselves they are any better than another, that they hold a position that’s higher. A president in a $400 million jet has less strength and tenacity than a woman giving birth in a hut in Haiti has in her pinkie toe. He is the definition of weakness, cowering behind gold-plated ego, while she risks her life to create another. There’s no comparison. If you don’t see that, listen to Polldarier while you contemplate which scenario you would choose for yourself, and why.
Bode is out on May 27th โ get it here. Right now, watch our official video premiere of “AM I” here:
‘AM I’ is the song that encapsulates the entire album โ it’s the soul of the record. Starting from the deepest low, it leads to enlightenment and self-acceptance. The album โ Bode โ portrays my inner struggles, self-discovery, therapeutic journey, and liberation โ guiding the listener through trauma processing toward freedom and finding authenticity.
