Permission to Rock… SUBSTRATUM is Kick Ass Heavy Metal!

Thomas Maglietto

One night in 2017, I went to my favorite hole in the wall dive bar for what was one of the most kick ass shows of the year. As with a lot of sick shows, the crowd was small but fucking into it – there were more flailing hair and flying fists than at all of the bigger bills I’ve been to. One of the bands that completely captivated me was Seattle’s SUBSTRATUM, whose take on traditional heavy metal is addictive. Their energy is insane, they have one of the best frontpeople in the biz, and the tape I picked up that night has been on constant rotation since that night. A couple of weeks ago, they self-released their EP Permission to Rock, and in late March they’re releasing a second EP via Divebomb Records entitled Stratosphere. If you are a fan of NWOTHM you need to listen to Substratum right now, so we’ve got it all in one place for you below – plus stay tuned for a full stream of their upcoming EP coming your way soon…
