So yesterday, I came across the Hardcore band PEACE PIPE, and they blew my mind! This band straight wrecks shop on their most recent release entitled Campaign Of Hatred. When their Beatdown anthem “Sitting Bull” kicked in with its menacing bassline, I had no choice but to be hooked instantly! How could I not love a song that has lyrics like these:
SITTING BULL ON A PLAIN OF POWER KILLING YOU WITH NO RESPECT BLISSFUL AND UNBOTHERED TIL YOU CAME ALONG YOU RUIN OUR LAND AND DESTROYED OUR SACRED HOMES YOU COULDNโT RESIST YOUR GREEDY WAYS AND NOW TO YOUR GRAVE YOU WILL BE LAID (SITTING BULL) STEP UP MOTHERFUCKER I FUCKING SEE YOU DIE WORTHLESS COWARD

Musically, they play their songs with such aggro passion that you can’t help but recognize their greatness. On the vocal tip, PEACE “MOTHER FUCKING” PIPE’s vocalist delivers a stellar performance on every track. “VISIONS OF MALICE” is a tune that will infest your reality and let you know the fight for liberation will never be over! Hot damn, the last song on CAMPAIGN OF HATRED called “Tiger Style” knocks HARD AF!

The fact that I was born into my beautiful Black body 56 years ago means I see the world through a lens of liberation. My family were victims of white terroristic violence during the early 1900s, which forced them to migrate to Colorado (where they thrived) from Texas (Slocum TX massacre), like many other Black families during this time. I know what oppression because of the color of my skin feels like. Displacement and theft of homeland lives in my DNA. I also know that I have never allowed my people’s oppression at the hands of white terrorists to define the way I see myself.
That’s a little context as to why bands like PEACE PIPE are so important to me as a Black man and to the underground at large. Don’t get it twisted: this band is not using their generational trauma for clout โthey are speaking the TRUTH! And in doing so PEACE PIPE is inspiring other Native youth to make their voices heard in hardcore, and for that, I have to say respect due!
I have said many times before, and I will say it again: music can be a weapon of mass change, and that is exactly what I hear this band doing.
