Your New Favorite Goth Punk Band! Watch the Video for CHERNAYA RECHKA “ЖАЛОСТЬ (PITY)”

Today, you get a heads up on the new video from post-punk darkwavers Chernaya Rechka (Black River) — it’s called “Жалость (Pity)” and it’s off of their self-titled album dropped on June 2nd via Artoffact Records — get it here. This beautiful song is flush with melodic basslines, lyrical guitar, and addictive beats, and it’s all sung in Russian, which in my opinion — along with Spanish — is one of the best languages to sing post-punk songs in. Chernaya Rechka says this song is about a codependent, unhealthy relationship between two people. But as I watch the video and listen to the hopeful yet depressing song, I can’t help but feel that it’s about two people inside all of us, the private one who hopes to one day emerge from the self-imposed prison of unrealistic, unhealthy expectations of the public one. To me, it’s a song about that burden that starts to build on us from a young age, starting when we realize that we must combat what’s unlovable about ourselves by unloving our real selves first. Maybe as you listen to “Жалость (Pity)” you can invite that hidden self out to dance. So right now, hit play on this new video from your new favorite goth punk band, Chernaya Rechka.

“Жалость (Pity)” is a classic number from the Chernaya Rechka, where the plot of the relationship between two people is comprehended. One of which cannot give the other what he deserves, and the other, in turn, cannot leave him. This is a sad story of little people whose life is centered around a gray life, but in their dreams they are in a fairy garden.
