Serial killer Jeffrey Dahmer was done in by his uncontrollable lust for human flesh, the man who whacked him in prison 20 years ago told The Post, revealing for the first time why the cannibal had to die.
Christopher Scarver โ who fatally beat the serial killer and another inmate in 1994 โ said he grew to despise Dahmer because he would fashion severed limbs out of prison food to taunt the other inmates.
Heโd drizzle on packets of ketchup as blood.
It was very unnerving.
โHe would put them in places where people would be,โ Scarver, 45, recalled in a low, gravelly voice.
โHe crossed the line with some people โ prisoners, prison staff. Some people who are in prison are repentant โ but he was not one of them.โ
In 1991, Dahmer approached three men and offered them money to pose for nude photographs. Of the three men, Tracy Edwards (pictured) agreed and he was led to Dahmerโs apartment. When Edwards was turned away, Dahmer placed a handcuff on one wrist and told him to follow him to the bedroom. Dahmer threatened him with a knife and informed Edwards that he planned one eating his heart. After being trapped in the killerโs apartment for five hours, Edwards punched Dahmer and ran out the front door. He flagged two Milwaukee police officers and led them back to Dahmerโs apartment, where they discovered a stack of photos of dismembered body parts, a head a fridge and three heads in the freezer. Scarver, who arrived at Wisconsinโs Columbia Correctional Institution around the same time as Dahmer in 1992, knew right away to keep a safe distance from the serial killer.
Scarver said the madman had a personal escort of at least one guard at all times when he was out of his cell because of his friction with other inmates.
โI saw heated interactions between [Dahmer] and other prisoners from time to time,โ Scarver said, adding that he didnโt think much of Dahmer.
โThere was no impression,โ he said.
Like a lone wolf, Scarver watched Dahmer from afar on the prison yard, but never approached him, because he did not want to become a target of his sickening humor.
