Connect With the Dreamy Post-Punk Visions of EST “Smoke Fetish”

I think my favorite part about talking music for CVLT Nation is seeing that all these new sounds project onto my minds eye as I listen to them. I’m not someone who needs to deconstruct the technical aspects of the sounds you’re making, I prefer to watch the moving pictures in my head, or the ones you’ve created to accompany your sonic output. So, with a project like EST, first I listened to the track with my eyes closed, and then I watched their video for “Smoke Fetish” that’s coming out via their Bandcamp on December 4th – you can pre-order it here. What I heard and saw is an ethereal dance with humanity’s literal smoke fetish – because it’s true, we do have one. It must be from the visions we see as it rises from the ritual fire. Or embedded in the DNA we share with the lands that have risen from fire and smoke. We’ve found myriad ways to fill our atmosphere with smoke so that we can re-create our earliest fascinations with its ability to thin the veil and guide us into new worlds. But the smoke we make is thinning our atmosphere instead. EST’s hypnotic, dreamy sounds allow me to see with my inner vision as they reverberate through my skull. Right now you’ve got the opportunity to watch “Smoke Fetish” below, so let you mind go as you watch the visions that rise up in you…
