The other day, my 11-year-old daughter told me that the earth is spinning 1,600 km/hr and if for any reason it stopped, we’d all instantly die because we’d be propelled 28 km in 1 second. Like the worst whiplash imaginable, for every being on this planet. Between that and my obsession with Graham Hancock’s apocalyptic theories, I think about all the things that could cause the end of the world that we have about as much control over as a flea meeting a flea collar. Watching this new video for the haunting DOS-OVNI single “Big Rock” is reminding me that our vast planet is but a bubble in the sea of the universe, reliant on an intricate cosmic dance to keep it from disappearing altogether. DOS-OVNI blend melancholy vocals, thundering percussion, and mournful riffs to remind us that each day could be our last. We’re the new dinosaurs. Dos-Ovni’s emotional and cataclysmic doomgaze is prompting me to notice what I love, who brings me joy, and why I need to celebrate every moment I have here. From the soft and steady open to the crashing, crushing close, “Big Rock” is a beautiful journey from existence to extinction.
