It’s been a while since I’ve hit play on a sonic ritual as special as TAKH. The band is made up of former members of the brilliant and now-defunct The Black Heart Rebellion, who back in 2015 invited Annelies Van Dinter to collaborate on their record People, when you see the smoke, do not think it is the fields they’re burning, which topped our Avant Garde charts for that year. Now they’ve turned that collaboration into the project known as TAKH, and it’s like nothing I’ve listened to since TBHR called it quits.
They’ve released their first single “Hair Of A Horsetail” and we’re excited to be sharing it with you here. The sounds plumb the depths of melancholy with a dark, seductive drone, and listening to it feels as though I’m being pulled underneath mysterious and cold waters. Knowing I won’t make it back to the surface the same as I went under. With hints of folk, black metal, and post-metal, and an exciting and adventurous song structure, “Hair Of A Horsetail” does feel like a rebirth of TBHR, which is exactly what I’ve been waiting for for years now. Van Dinter’s vocals and drums add something glorious, ancient, and otherworldly to TAKH that brings the whole project together.
TAKH’s debut full-length is due in early 2022, so stay tuned for more about that on these pages soon…for now, satisfy your soul with their first single, “Hair Of A Horsetail.”
