The Dark Side of Disney… Dead Princess Gore

With two daughters, I am very aware of how insidious the Disney Princesses are. Especially for children of color, since the archetypes Disney shows my kids are indistinguishable – with the exception of hair color. On a deeper level, pushing princesses on our children upholds gender inequity (because it’s hard to focus on your mind when you are so focused on your hip to waist ratio), and financial inequity, because it shows monarchy – and by extension the 1% – as a benign, natural and desired status in human society. Since I vehemently do not believe in any of those things, and I am morbid to say the least, I love what makeup artist Mykie from Glam and Gore has done with her “Dark Side of Disney” series. Using her exceptional gore and horror makeup skills, she has recreated iconic Disney Princesses in their darkest moments– Snow White after eating the poisoned apple, the Little Mermaid after being hooked, Rapunzel after strangling herself with her own hair. I even threw in a couple more I thought were rad – the melting Wicked Witch of the West and real-life Barbie after botched surgery. If you share my morbid curiosities and/or my deep-seated hatred of Disney, enjoy Mykie’s creations below…

…. And if you guessed The Wicked Witch of the West from the Wizard of Oz you are ALSO correct. 😉 The tutorial IS NOW UP! The link is in my bio or search for “Glam&Gore” on YouTube.
