Our Black Mental Reigns Supreme!
Jorja Smith video “By Any Means”

I just watched the new Jorja Smith video “By Any Means” and it’s moved me to write this feature! My heart is in pain from all of the hatred in the world towards BIPOC, but I also feel stronger than ever that we’ll all win in the end. Her video paints a beautiful portrait of what it is to be a Black person (there are so many hues of Blackness) in the UK. “By Any Means” is heavy and wasn’t created from a place of weakness. “I take pride in the things that we’ve done / Side by side in the revolution / Won’t stay silent for things that I love,” Smith sings. Maybe you came to CVLT Nation for the latest Black Metal anthem, but I decided to give you a piece of my Black Mental instead. Thank you Jorja Smith for manifesting this soaring and heartfelt anthem!

The inspiration behind ‘By Any Means’ really came from going to the Black Lives Matter protest and leaving thinking, ‘What can I do to keep this conversation going?’
