Arachnophobia… Living with 1,500 Pet Tarantulas

Since fear is an emotion that a lot of the music and art we cover here channels, this post seemed like something that would trigger the same level of unsettling, hair-raising terror that a The Body show does. Ming Cu is an Indonesian woman who breeds tarantulas for a living. As a result, she currently lives with approximately 1,500 tarantulas, and she treats them like they are her pets. Admittedly, tarantulas are probably the cuddliest spiders out there, all fuzzy and cute, but they’re also one of the most feared spiders. Watching Ming Cu lovingly hold a giant tarantula as she talks to the camera is pretty surreal, especially the absent minded way she lets is wander around on her arm and hand. If you’re an arachnophobe, I wouldn’t watch this.
