A Black Metal/Punk Gem: TOUCH_SCREEN – Self-Titled Tape Review + Stream

Here we are again, bragging about the work of Damian Master. Will this guy ever do anything wrong? Even if you are not the biggest fan of his “purple” and sentimental and emotionally-charged post-punk/metal hybrid recently showcased in his main endeavor, A Pregnant Light, the purists of his early rawness will have something to feast up once again –just as they did with Aksumite, and possibly even more. TOUCH_SCREEN in fact is just pure punk fury and black metal grime, much as A Pregnant Light used to be in the early stages of its existence, and possibly steered even more in the direction of filth and of “carnal” sonic desecration, or towards the raw punk aesthetic showcased by bands like Human Bodies and Raw Nerve.

With a blown-out and home made production drenched in feedback and noise, these four tracks kick off and wrap up in under five minutes, but the experience is exhilarating and captivating. Master and his partner in crime Trey Steketee just go straight for the gut of the listener, pummeling eardrums with a ferocious and schizoid amalgamation of blasting, feedback and razorwire riffs that leave flesh battered and ears ringing for days. This amazing new tape has been just released by Master’s equally amazing label, Colloquial Sound Recordings, so if things are done as they normally are over there, it’s likely that maybe 30 of these exist or have ever existed, so if I were you I’d head over there right now and grab a copy before they are gone forever.
