Sadgiqacea / Hivelords Tour Diary Part I

Text: Will // Hivelords

A golden, rotting body; like many tour kickoffs, things were stressful with last minute preparations for the first gigs in Lindenwold, NJ and York, PA. Windmill of Corpses killed it both nights, as they do, perma-road-dogs who bring the ruckus. The Sex Dungeon in Lindenwold is the go-to tour kickoff spot for a reason; wizards, whiskey, women, all awash in sub bass gut waves. In York we met self-dubbed-Chubbs “Baby Tits” who sported a “pug life” gut buster and was killing it, smashing beers into his face and moshing everyone in the crowd. We night-dogged it to Rhode Island, where we met up with friends, hit the Armageddon record shop for an afternoon rendezvous, and then played a matinee show at Dusk (like a fork on your wedding day).

In Boston, Werewolf’s friend Devo Strong helped HIVELORDS duplicate a hundred tour split cassettes with Ardent Vein, much better than the 1-to-1 cassette deck on board the Dan. Seal Team Promo Porno flyered up the area for what turned out to be a killer show with masked black metal marauders Plagues and as-loud-as-they-are-mean Lunglust. We recharged with backyard vegetables and beef jerky at Werewolf’s house in Boston.

1st tour leg

Sylvia and Eastern Spell ground stones to dust with us in Portland, Maine thanks to Kyl Saint John. Many friends from the Motherland were in attendance with old friends Reuben, Eric and Screamin’ Demon Steve. Camped on a deck under the stars. Egg sandwiches and river muddings were the order of the next day.

The Rat Palace at Portsmouth was home to a raging impromptu kickball game. Jan & Ramlord slayed. Plenty of icing and an unfortunate broken wrist. Kickball has never been so dangerous. Frozen pizza, freight elevator and steamroller(s) of hash. Forgot our medicine in Portsmouth and arrived in Worcester without them. Seal team 4206669 General Mills and the Whiskey Werewolf made the return trip for the goods and we played to no one. We develop an important secret code this night. Night-dog to Syracuse to begin a three-day stint in beautiful upstate New York.

Green lake swim. Garage sales. Coffee by Ed Gein. Gorham Brothers music was a rad store and venue. Bonfire. Gorham’s generous bottomless sandwiches. Those tour hounds called The Wayward rocked and partied with us on this night.

After filling a moonshine watermelon and the rise of that bold tyrant the Watermelon King, our repressed frisbee lake-lusts were quickly sublimated into a tense seaweed civil war. The Bug Jar in Rochester was revelatory. The Highest Leviathan, Blizaro and Fox 45 nursed us with riffs. Buffalo was evil at The Lair thanks for Eareckson Murray w/ Ancients of Earth & Enthauptung (elephant tongue). Autumn then let us curse the local dorms with our filth. Chip dinner was church.

Pittsburgh was awesome as usual, with the Dendritic Arbor crew who was out in full support. Cold beers for all. Slaves BC and Night Vapor sucked the normal out of us, and Pinprick Punishment from Japan brought the crazy punk & roll. Endless smoke ushered a listening party for the new Anthrosphere V compilation.

Beers were freed in Kent, as were minds. The rivers were clear, the grass was green and burning, and the women were beautiful. Stone Tavern is a great spot for freaks like us. Goosed hooked it up and provided riffs for the grooving. Next morning the van was too mildewed to go on, so we plugged a few undercarriage leaks and went all science fair with vinegar and baking soda on our beloved rugs. It worked.
